BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Kyle Marks and Chad Lutkenhaus each scored 12 points but Campbell opened the second half on a 22-4 run and went on to defeat the Eagles 78-62 Wednesday night.
Campbell finished with a 27-9 advantage in points off turnovers against FGCU (9-14, 5-7), which committed 26 miscues on the night.
Kyle Marks (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Chad Lutkenhaus (Labelle, Fla.) led the Eagles with 12 points each. Reed Baker (Naples, Fla.) and Delvin Franklin (Houston, Texas) added nine.
The Camels shot 50 percent in the second half, 6-of-11 (.545) from 3-point distance and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. For the game, Campbell shot 44 percent from the floor, 36 percent (9-25) from beyond the arc, and made 13-of-15 (.867) foul shots.
FGCU made 47.5 percent of its shots, but just 5-13 from 3-point distance, while sinking 19-of-24 (.792) from the stripe. Campbell finished with a 33-29 edge on the glass, scoring 18 second-chance points off 16 offensive rebounds.
Campbell took advantage of 17 FGCU turnovers in the first half and led 34-29 at the break. The Camels committed 12 miscues in the opening period, but held a 16-6 edge in points off mistakes.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when the host Belmont in the second game of a double header. Tip-off is set for approximately 3:15 pm.
