FORT MYERS, Fla. - Derrick O’Neil notched his first double-double of the season and four Eagles scored in double figures as the Eagles defeated Lipscomb in thrilling fashion by a score of 76-73 on Monday night in Alico Arena.
With the win the Eagles improve their record to 10-15 overall and 6-8 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, while the Bison fall to 8-13 and 4-8 in the conference.
In a game that saw 15 lead changes, the Eagles took a four point led into halftime only to see it disappear quickly, as the Bison would lead by as many as six with 5:16 left in the game. But, when O’Neil (Moreno Valley, Calif.) hit a layup with 26 seconds remaining, the Eagles went ahead 74-73 and didn’t look back.
O’Neil led the Eagle effort with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting while collecting 12 rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Reed Baker (Naples,Fla.) led all scorers with 23 points off the bench while junior Kyle Marks (West Palm Beach, Fla.) had 15 points and three blocks. Freshman Reggie Chambers (Miramar, Fla.) chipped in 10 points and 4 assists.
Adnan Hodzic led the way for Lipscomb with 15 points and nine rebounds. Michael Lusk tallied 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
The Eagles hit the road this weekend with stops in Johnson City, Tenn. and Spartanburg, S.C. to battle East Tennessee State and USC-Upstate.
The Eagles land back at home February 14th to face Mercer. Tip-off is set for 3:15 p.m.
