Each day from Oct. 29th through Nov. 12th, the Atlantic Sun Conference will preview the upcoming 2010-11 men's basketball season with 11 Days of Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball. Today, we talk with Anthony Banks, a sophomore all-conference forward for the FGCU Eagles.
Top Returning Scorer: Anthony Banks, Sophomore Forward – The preseason all-conference forward became the first player in program history to be named to the all-conference team after producing 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in his freshman campaign en route to being named to the A-Sun All-Rookie team. Banks started every game for the Eagles – the only player on the team to do so – and his point average ranked 11th in the A-Sun, while his rebound production ranked 8th.
Banks top game of the season came against Jacksonville on Feb. 11th when he registered 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in only 23 minutes of play. In total, Banks scored in double-figures 21 times, which included four 20-point games, while he led the team in rebounds in 14 contests.
Season Opening Game: FGCU at Indiana, Nov. 12th at 6:30 p.m. - A contest with five-time NCAA Champions, Indiana, awaits the Eagles to kick off the 2010-11 season. After an 8-21 record in the third season of Division I Basketball for the Eagles, FGCU returns eight players to the squad including two starters. The Hoosiers recorded a 10-21 mark last year finishing 10th in the Big Ten Conference and return all five starters.
Conference Game to Watch: FGCU at Belmont, Jan. 28th at 7 p.m. – Last season, the Eagles picked up five conference victories, two of which came courtesy of the Belmont Bruins, who claimed a share of the A-Sun Regular Season title. FGCU claimed a three-point victory at the Curb Event Center and then protected Alico Arena with a three-point margin over the Bruins.
