FORT MYERS, Fla. – Following a week that included a pair of double-doubles, FGCU men’s basketball junior Sherwood Brown (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week on Tuesday, announced by the league office.
Brown posted averages of 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds over a 2-1 week at Alico Arena en route to becoming the third Eagle to be lauded by the A-Sun this season, but the first to win Player of the Week. Freshmen Brett Comer (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park HS) and Bernard Thompson (Conyers, Ga./Rockdale County HS) have both won the Newcomer of the Week award one time.
The Orlando, Fla. product began the week with team-highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds over just 18 minutes in a win over Longwood. Brown then followed with 14 points and six rebounds in FGCU’s season-best third win of the year before closing the stretch with his third double of the season against first place Mercer. His 15 points and 13 rebounds, including seven offensive, were both team-highs against the Bears.
Brown leads FGCU in both scoring (12.4) and rebounding (5.9), figures that both rank 10th in the A-Sun. His 12 double figure outings are highlighted by a team-high two 20-point games, while he also has a team-best three double-doubles. Brown also leads the team with 41 offensive rebounds.
FGCU will be back in action when it opens the final month of the regular season with a two-game A-Sun road trip to Jacksonville.
