FORT MYERS, Fla. – Junior forward Chase Fieler (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South HS) tied his career-high with 18 points in FGCU’s win over FIU and after his superb showing in the Eagles lone game last week, he earned his first College Sports Madness Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award on Monday.
This marks the third time this season that the Eagles have won the A-Sun Player of the Week award from College Sports Madness. Senior Sherwood Brown (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) took home the honor in back-to-back weeks on Nov. 19 and Nov. 26
The Eagles (7-4) had only one game last week as they pulled out a dramatic 76-73 win at home over FIU. Fieler was electric in the win as he tied his career-high with 18 points on 8-of-11 from the field, to go along with five rebounds and two steals. He also had four dunks in the win bringing his team-leading total to 23 for the season.
Fieler has been getting better and better as the season has progressed, averaging 13.0 ppg and 5.9 ppg in his last seven games, including reaching double figures in six of those games.
College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and one from each conference in their weekly feature. The site’s coverage also includes a Top 25 ranking, tournament bracketology and team pages for each conference and school.
FGCU is currently No. 43 in the Warren Nolan RPI, with the 33rd-best strength of schedule, and it is just outside the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll with 44 votes. The new Mid-Major Top 25 poll will be released on Monday evening.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, December 18 as they host NAIA foe Southeastern with a scheduled tip set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
