FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU men’s basketball senior Sherwood Brown (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) became the program’s third player in the program’s 11-year history to reach 1,000 career points last Friday and on Monday earned his third College Sports Madness A-Sun Player of the Week honor of the year.

Brown has twice been named the A-Sun Player of the Week by the media outlet since conference play started, as the 6-foot-4 guard is averaging 17.6 points and 8.0 rebounds over nine league games at the midway point, figures that both rank third.

Needing just 15 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau, Brown turned in his third consecutive 20-point game in the team’s convincing 96-65 win over Stetson in the A-Sun/CSS Friday Night Game of the Week. With the win, FGCU (14-8) moved into a tie for first place in the league standings at 6-3.

Brown finished with 21 points against the Hatters, also adding a team-high seven rebounds. As good as his 21-point and seven-rebound night was, Brown’s school record four-game double-double streak came to an end.

One of just four players in the A-Sun top 10 in scoring (15.4/6th) and rebounding (6.1/7th), Brown is just 18 rebounds shy of becoming the first player in FGCU history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Brown currently ranks in the A-Sun top 10 in six statistical categories
