MACON, Ga. – Coming off FGCU’s convincing 96-65 win over first place Stetson last Friday, redshirt sophomore Eric McKnight (Raleigh, N.C./Princeton Day Academy/Iowa State) has been named the Atlantic Sun Co-Newcomer of the Week, as the league handed out its weekly awards on Tuesday.
The Newcomer of the Week award is the second of the year for McKnight, who shared the honor with Jacksonville’s Javon Dawson. McKnight’s 10 points, four rebounds and three blocks came over 16 minutes against the Hatters, as FGCU’s win placed it in a tie with Stetson for first place at 6-3 along with three other teams in the tight A-Sun race.
The double figure game was the fourth in the last seven contests for McKnight, as he’s gone a torrid 25-of-35 from the floor over that span. The Raleigh, N.C. native is averaging 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season, while making 20 starts. McKnight’s three rejections against Stetson brought his season total to 31, good for second in the A-Sun.
The Eagles will begin the second half of the A-Sun regular season with a trip to Jacksonville for a pair of games, beginning with a showdown at North Florida (8-13, 3-5 A-Sun) on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
