DUNK CITY, Fla. – FGCU men’s basketball redshirt junior Eric McKnight, who has missed the first six games of the season while serving a suspension for a violation of team rules, will remain indefinitely suspended and will not play Sunday against Iona.

FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh issued the following statement: “Originally slated as a minimum six-game suspension, Eric will remain sidelined until it is determined that he has reached a satisfactory level of completion in all matters related to his violation of team rules.”

McKnight (Raleigh, N.C./Princeton Day Academy) started 34 games last year after transferring from Iowa State following the 2010-11 season. At 6-foot-9, McKnight is the second-tallest Eagle on the roster, and averaged 6.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in 2012-13 for FGCU.

“We’re very pleased with the progress Eric has made to this point, but he still has some more work to do,” head coach Joe Dooley said. “He has handled himself extremely well during this difficult time and has done everything asked of him both on and off the court. We’re looking forward to getting Eric back in the near future.”

FGCU and McKnight will have no further comment on this matter.
