MACON, Ga. – After leading the Eagles in scoring with 18 points in their victory over Samford on Saturday afternoon, Brett Comer has earned the first Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award of his career.
Comer (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park HS) collected his 18 points on an efficient 8-10 shooting from the floor, pulled down a season-high five rebounds and handed out two assists in the 83-51 victory. The junior carried the Eagles to their first victory since Nov. 23 and helped snap a season-long three-game losing streak.
Comer is now second behind Chase Fieler (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South HS) with 13.8 points per game to Fieler’s 14.1. His 5.4 assists per game are overwhelmingly the best on the FGCU roster and tops in the A-Sun while his 49 total assists stand in second. Comer’s 471 career assists rank 15th in A-Sun history.
FGCU will travel to USF on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup that can be seen nationally on ESPNU. The Eagles return home on Dec. 30 following a four-game road stretch to begin A-Sun play against Northern Kentucky.
