Assistant coach Leo Miller brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to head coach Dave Balza’s staff, as he enters his seventh season at FGCU.
Miller assists Balza in all aspects of the program with his primary focusing being the scouting of opponents, assisting with the day-to-day practice schedule, tracking academic progress and putting together community service projects, highlighted by the Eagle Reading program.
Over his six seasons on the bench at FGCU, Miller has been a part of 98 wins, two 20-win seasons and is the only other coach besides Balza to be a member of each of the Division I teams in school history.
A high school coaching legend in Massachusetts, Miller coached 41 seasons (1962-2004) at Nauset Regional High School on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Over those 41 seasons, Miller’s Nauset Regional squad suffered just two losing seasons, while posting an outstanding 622-239 record.
Miller has been elected to both the Massachusetts and New England Basketball Hall of Fame and is one of just five coaches in the state to amass 600 or more victories. Among his many honors, Miller was appointed by the National Federation Coaches Association as the Northeast Coach of the Year and as the High School Coach designee to assist the East squad at the 1993 Summer Olympic Festival in San Antonio, Texas.
Miller and his wife currently reside in St. James City, Fla.
