Eagles Finish 4th at Saint Leo Invitational

Sophomore Edison Vasquez finished ninth to lead the Florida Gulf Coast University men’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the inaugural Saint Leo Invitational, which was held at the Little Everglades Steeplechase Course in Dade City.
Florida Southern recorded a perfect score of 15, sweeping the top-five places, to capture the men’s division team title. Nova Southeastern took second place with 75 points, followed by Saint Leo with 110 points.
Vasquez (Naples), who has the top-5 fastest times in school history for the 8K race, finished with a time of 29:40. A trio of freshmen - Roland-Jean Gilles (Naples), Bryan Spiewak and Rob Clendening – finished 2-3-4 for the Eagles. Senior Chris Hernandez completed the team scoring.
The FGCU men will compete in the Gator Invitational on Saturday, September 18.
