FORT MYERS, Fla., - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's cross country team was honored as an All-Academic team for the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Eagles were one of 57 teams to post a team Grade Point Average over 3.0 in Division II. FGCU recorded a team GPA of 3.050. The squad finished eighth in the NCAA South Region this year. The team earned five top-10 finishes this season including a second place finish at the Florida Tech Invitational. The second place finish was the highest in school history.

"This is one of our team goals year in and year out, to be recognized on the academic front," stated head coach Chris Highfield. "Within our program we stress the importance of academics, making it above all, our first priority. I am extremely proud of both our men's and women's teams for receiving this prestigious national award."

The Eagles will begin competing in the Atlantic Sun conference as a Division I member next year. The team loses only two runners to graduation this year and returns eight runners next year.
