Fort Myers, Fla. – The FGCU men’s cross country team has been ranked the third best cross country only school in Division I. FGCU is coming off one of its best season to date, placing 20th at the 2012 NCAA South Regionals.

Quinnipiac, Dayton, FGCU, Canisius and New Mexico State lock up the top five spots in the poll. Four teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference were placed in the top 38 with FGCU and Mercer (No. 7) in the top 10.

This season also saw the men’s program get ranked in the South Region poll conducted by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

USTFCCCA Oct. 29th poll ranked FGCU 14th, one spot in front of SEC foe Mississippi who took 15th.

Juniors Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) and Chris Rudloff (Ormond Beach, Fla./Mainland) set the top two records all-time in the 8K last season. Cruz set a program-best time of 25:20.64 at the Greater Louisville Classic. Rudloff set the second fastest time in program history with a time of 25:28.98 at the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. Rudloff was also named to the All-Conference second team with his time that day.

Freshman Aaron Rojas (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman after finishing with a time of 26:17.7 at the A-Sun Championships.

The Eagles will look to take the momentum into the 2013 fall season.
