Men's X-C Runners Compete at Invite

FORT MYERS, FL – The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Invitational at Ed Radice State Park in Tampa this weekend.

In a departure from the standard 8-kilometer races, the men’s team competed in a 5K college/open division race. Sophomore Edison Vasquez (Naples High), who set a school record for the 8K a week ago, led the Eagles with a time of 17 minutes, 20 minutes, good for 37th overall. His time was the 20th best by a collegiate runner in the race.

Freshman Ronald Jean-Giles (Lely) was second for FGCU, finishing 74th in 18:50. Bryan Spiewak (94th in 19:28), Rob Clendening (105th in 19:51), Lyle Edixon (115th in 20:24) and Chris Hernandez (124th in 21:16) rounded out the times for the Eagles.

The men finished eighth overall with 235 points. Warner Southern captured the team title.

The Eagles run at the Embry-Riddle/Smoothie King Invitational in Daytona on Saturday.
