FORT MYERS, Fla – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s cross country team opened its 2005 season with a third place finish at the Saint Leo Invitational 5-K at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City on Friday night.
The Eagles finish was the best team finish ever by FGCU. Perennial powers Tampa and Florida Southern finished first and second. Host Saint Leo was fourth, followed by Rollins. David Forry of Tampa took home individual honors in the event with an overall time of 16:53, six second ahead of teammate Matt Clements.
Sophomore Mike Harney had an impressive debut in an Eagles uniform. The junior college transfer posted the second-fastest 5K time in school history to place third individually in 17:08.
