DELAND, Fla. – Three runners finished in the top-34 as Florida Gulf Coast University placed eighth in the 16th Annual Hatter Cross Country 8-K Invitational on Friday night.
Sophomore Mike Harney led the Eagles with a 20th place finish and a time of 28:46. Junior Ismael Galicia finished 31st in 29:33 while junior Scott Poindexter was 34th in 29:46. Also for FGCU, sophomore Bryan Spiewak placed 52nd with a time of 31:38, junior Ray Cayo placed 59th with a time of 32:46, freshman Grant Berkery placed 60th with a time of 32:53 and freshman Adam Ulrich was 61st with a time of 33:15.
“I am proud of our overall effort this weekend,” said Eagles coach Chris Highfield. “It was an extremely tough course filled with many muddy spots and a lot of water that affected our times. But we are looking forward to the NCAA South Regional on November 5.”
FGCU will have three weeks to prepare for the NCAA Division II regional to be held at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City.
