FGCU Men's Cross Country Announces Recruiting Class
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Head Coach Cassandra Goodson and the Florida Gulf Coast University men's cross country program announced the impending arrival of three new recruits for the 2009-10 running season on Wednesday.
Jonathan Lanning, Dillon McGee, and John Zurek will all enter FGCU as freshmen in the fall of 2009.
"We are really excited about the additions we have made this offseason," said head coach Cassandra Goodson. “These freshmen should make an immediate impact on the team”
This class features:
Sarasota County Cross Country champion (2007, 2008). Sarasota County 1600m and 800m champion. Cross Country Regional runner up. A FHSAA All State runner. Two regional qualifiers (Track). Three District champions.
Jonathan Lanning (Sarasota, Fla.)
As a high school junior, Lanning was one of the state’s premier milers, and finished seventh at the 2007 4A state cross country championship in his first season of 5k competition. Lanning is also the second ranked senior boy in the State of Florida on Mile Split US. He finished just three seconds shy of the number one senior boy in the cross country 5000m. He has also earned Mile Split US First Team Elite honors. Lanning’s resume also includes a cross country runner up finish in 2008, FSHAA All State honors, 1600m and 800m champion, the Sarasota High School record holder in the 5k and 1600m, and team MVP honors in both his junior and senior year.

Dillon McGee (Indialantic, Fla.)
McGee attended Melbourne High School, and placed seventh in the FHSAA 4A Region 2, running a 10:00.02 in the 3200m. McGee also earned All Cape Coast Conference Team honors as a junior and senior. Was a member of the 2207 State Championship team, and on the 2008 State runner up team, which placed eighth at the Nike Team Nationals. McGee also was a Regional Qualifier in 2007 and 2009 in the 3200m (track), and earned the 2007 FHSAA Team Academic Award.

John Zurek Jr. (St. Petersburg, Fla.)
Zurek attended Northeast High School where he was named team MVP in 2008 in both track and cross country. Was a 2008 District Champion, and was named to the 2009 All District team in the 1600m. Zurek was a 2009 Regional Qualifier in the 3200m and the 1600m. Zurek placed ninth in the FHSAA 3A Region 3, running a 10:32.66 in the 3200m, and finished eighth in the 1600m with a time of 4:50.12.
