ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) shaved a full minute off his record-setting time to lead the FGCU men’s cross country team to a 10th-place finish at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning. Windsor (Ontario) won the 8K race with 22 total points.
Cruz finished in 17th place out of 186 runners with a time of 25:43.10. His time broke the previous school record of 26:06 that he set last weekend at the Sean Loyola Lakefront Invitational. The freshman has now been the top FGCU finisher in three consecutive meets, breaking the school record each time.
Sophomore Jonathan Lanning (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Military Academy) also set a personal record with a time of 26:07.60 in the 8K race for an 37th-place finish. Lanning has now finished right behind Cruz for the third straight meet as well.
Freshman Chris Rudloff (Ormond Beach, Fla./Mainland HS) clocked in at 26:40.00 to finish in 53rd. He also ran 12 seconds faster than his personal best that he set last Saturday in Chicago. Sophomore Matthew Crowe (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill HS/Brevard) (26.49.90) finished right behind Rudloff for the second consecutive meet, crossing the finish line in 60th.
Freshman Sanders Payne (Weston, Fla./West Broward HS) (27:04.70) and sophomore Dillon McGee (Indialantic, Fla./Melbourne HS) placed 67th and 76th, respectively. Redshirt sophomore Joseph Habel (Naples, Fla./Naples HS) clocked in at 28:16.10 in 88th to round out the top Eagle finishers.
The Eagles have its tune-up before the Atlantic Sun championship at the Hatter Invitational on Friday, October 15 in DeLand, Fla.
