FORT MYERS, Fla. – Taking seventh place in the field of 214 runners last Saturday at the Disney World Cross Country Classic at the Wide World of Sports Complex, FGCU men’s cross country sophomore runner Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) earned the program’s first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference Runner of the Week honor, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
For the third time this season Cruz was the top finisher for the Eagles, taking seventh in the 8K event with a time of 25:55.75 last Saturday. While leading the Eagles to a second place finish in the field of 24 teams, the time set a new season-best for Cruz, while also establishing a new program record time for sophomores, besting the previous mark of 26:00.80.
Cruz has been strong for the Eagles in his first two years on campus, earning the three best 8K times in program history, as well as, six of the top 10 times. In addition to holding the 8K program-record time of 25:38.00, the Immokalee, Fla. product also owns the top time for sophomores and four of the top times for freshmen.
Traveling to Orlando, Fla. for the second straight weekend, the Eagles are set to compete at the UCF Invitational on Friday evening at 6 p.m. It will be the Green and Blue’s final tune-up before competing at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Oct. 29.
