FORT MYERS, Fla. – With the announcement of the inaugural Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference team on Thursday, sophomore FGCU men’s cross country runner Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) was tabbed with one of three unanimous selections to the team.

“This is certainly well-deserved recognition for Argeo, as he is what FGCU strives for in a student-athlete,” said fourth-year head coach Cassandra Harbin. “He gets the job done in the classroom, as well as, in the competitive arena, and I am very proud of him for this honor.”

Holding a 3.59 GPA, the civil engineering major has been the top finisher for the Eagles in four of the six competitions this season, including a first place finish at the season-opening FGCU Invitational. Placing 25th overall at the Atlantic Sun Conference championship, Cruz helped the Eagles to a pair of top three finishes this season, leading the squad to a first place finish at the FGCU Invite. Taking seventh overall in the field of 214 runners, Cruz picked up the program’s first-ever A-Sun Runner of the Week for his effort at the Disney World Cross Country Classic.

Cruz holds six of the program’s top 10 all-time 8K times, including the top three times on the list. The Immokalee, Fla. product also holds two of FGCU’s all-time marks for a sophomore, including the top time, which he set at Disney Classic with a mark of 25:55.75.

On Saturday, Cruz and redshirt classmate Gilbert Chemaoi (Eldoret, Kenya/Kirobon HS/Eastern Kentucky) will represent the Green and Blue at the NCAA South Regional, hosted by Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Competing at the regional event for the first time in program history, the 10K race will get underway at 10 a.m. from the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course. Results and recaps from the event will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com following the race.
