FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the first time in program history, the FGCU men’s cross country team has been ranked in the latest South Region poll conducted by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), announced on Monday.

USTFCCCA ranked FGCU 14th in the poll, one spot in front of SEC foe Mississippi who took 15th.

FGCU, Kennesaw State (No. 13, South) and ETSU (No. 4, South) are the only teams from the A-Sun to be ranked in the poll.

The men’s cross country team has defeated several schools that have been ranked in the USTFCCCA South Region rankings. The Green and Blue defeated Chattanooga (No. 12) and previously ranked Mercer, Lipscomb and Belmont at the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 29.

The Eagles are coming off a fourth place finish at Atlantic Sun Conference Championships last weekend. FGCU had three competitors place in the top 20, led by junior Chris Rudloff (Ormond Beach, Fla./Mainland) who finished 14th with a time of 25:28.9. Rudloff was also named to the All-Conference second team for his performance at the Championship. Classmate Argeo Cruz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) was the second FGCU competitor to finish when he came in 16th place with a time of 25:44.1. Senior Alexander Schilling (Dresden, Germany/Sportsgymnasium Dresden/Queens University of Charlotte) finished in 20th place with a time of 25:58.1 while freshman Aaron Rojas (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) earned All-Freshman team honors with his time of 26:17.7.
