Men's Golf Team Places 8th at Unicco Fall Invitational

TAMARAC, Fla.  – The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team posted the third-best score in the final round and finished eighth overall at the 2004 Unicco Fall Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern the past two days at Woodmont Country Club in Tamarac, Fla.

Lynn University claimed the 2004 Invitational with a 13-under-par score of 851 (280-277-294). Eckerd College’s Nick Romann finished at 12-under-par (68-65-71+204)to claim medalist honors.

FGCU moved up two spots in the final round to edge Saginaw Valley State for the eighth spot in the team competition with a three round total of 881 (293 296 292).

Eagles senior Joey Lamielle (Sarasota) was 15th individually in the event, as he shot even par (71 73 72=216) for his third consecutive top-20 finish during the 2004 fall season.

Junior Drew Pierson placed second on the team and tied for 28th overall (75-75-71=221) for a season-low 5-over par. Sophomore Alister Munro shot a season-low 223 (74-74-75=223) to tie for 40th. Sophomore Kyle Bilodeau, competing for the first time this fall, tied for 50th overall (73-78-74=225). Senior David Steele shot (76-74-77=227) to finish in a tie for 56th overall.

The Eagles will close out its fall season next weekend at the Rollins College Invitational.
