FGCU Men's Golf 5th at Buccaneer Invitational

HOLLYWOOD, Fla.  – Battling wind and rain early, no team and only 11 individuals came in under par in the final round of the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Barry University at the Hillcrest Golf Club earlier today. However, North Alabama held onto their two-round lead and captured the team title carding a three-round 858 (283-283-292) six-under par score.

Lynn (287-285-289) fired a final round 289 one-stroke over par score and moved up one spot to finish second with a three-under-par 861 score, while Johnson & Wales (284-286-289=866) finished two-over par in third. Host Barry finished just 12 strokes behind the tournament leader with a three-round six-over-par 870 (285-293-292) score in fourth place, and Florida Gulf Coast carded a three-round 880 (295-292-293) score to finish fifth.

Only two individuals turned in under-par scores all three rounds of the tournament. St. Edwards' Blake Slaughter carded a third round low three-under par 69 and captured the individual medalist title with a three-round 11-under-par 205 (69-67-69). Johnson & Wales Adam Scrimenti, a former FGCU golfer, also fired three consecutive under par rounds and finished as the individual runner-up with a three-round seven-under-par 209 (69-69-71) score.

Senior Mike Claman carded a second round 70 and led the Eagles with at three-round, even-par 216 (73-70-73) score and finished 10th out of 85 individuals. Junior Tom Villani (72-72-80) and sophomore Joe Hays (76-74-74) tied for 29th with three-round scores of 224, while junior Drew Pierson and sophomore Alister Munro posted a three-round score of 227 to tie for 43rd.

The FGCU men will participate in the Inaugural Lexus Naples Invitational, hosted by PGA professional Peter Jacobsen, on April 14-15.
