Field Announced for Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational
NAPLES, Fla. - The 2006 field for the Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational is full, according to executive director of the tournament, Ed Kiernan. The 12 participating teams are Florida Gulf Coast University, Notre Dame, Ohio State University, St Mary’s College, Florida State University, Illinois State University, Naval Academy, Baylor University, University of Wisconsin, University of Rhode Island, Wake Forest and University of Portland.
The Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by PGA TOUR professional Peter Jacobsen, is returning for a second year February 26 – 28, at Hammock Bay Golf and Country Club in Naples, Fla. The two-day tournament will showcase 12 of the top collegiate golf teams from around the country, with each school bringing five players.
The format will be a 54-hole medal play, with overall team and individual competition.
One Monday, February 27, participants will play 36 holes, with the remaining 18 holes played February 28. Collegiate players will also participate in a sponsor/alumni VIP reception on February 26, where players, coaches, sponsors and staff can socialize.
New this year, the collegiate players will team up with sponsors and alumni for an 18-hole College-Am on Sunday, February 26.
St. Mary’s College returns as the defending champions after winning in both the overall team and individual categories at the 2005 Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational. St. Mary’s Liam Kendregan won in the individual category scoring 208 and helping lead the team to victory with an overall score of 845.
