FGCU Golf Teams to Host The Eagle Shootout Pro-Am
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Florida Gulf Coast University men’s and women’s golf program and the Palmira Golf Club are hosting The Eagle Shootout Pro-Am on Monday, November 14 at the Palmira Golf Club in Bonita Springs.
A par-72 masterpiece, Palmira Golf Club's championship course offers 18 signature holes designed for challenge and playability. Golf facilities include state of the art pitching and putting areas, expansive practice range and TifEagle greens. Designed by Gordon Lewis, it is considered to be one of the most prestigious courses in Southwest Florida
The event will also feature a golf clinic with Paul Azinger, 1993 PGA Champion and winner of 12 PGA Tour championships, eight-time PGA tour championship winner Loren Roberts and Dr. Jim Suttie, 2000 PGA National Teacher of the Year and head golf coach at FGCU.
The pro-am scramble, which features one local teaching professional and four amateurs per team, begins with the clinic at 8:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 9:25 a.m. It will be a scramble format for the amateurs and medal play for the professionals. Lunch and awards will follow the event.
Prizes will be based on a full field of 100 players and the payouts are based on a percentage of the entry fees. Cost is $185 per player and $740 per foursome with $4,450 in Palmira certificates available to the top amateur teams. Pros will be playing for $4,450 in prize money.
Proceeds for the event will go to the Ben Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund to support the golf programs at FGCU. Adams was a co-founder, along with Ron Howell, of an Antigua program to support the men’s and women’s golf programs at FGCU. After his sudden passing this summer, the scholarship program in his name was developed.
Entry forms are available from the golf office in the athletic department at Alico Arena on the campus of FGCU or the Palmira Golf Club. For more information call FGCU associate athletic director Butch Perchan at (239) 590-7012.
