FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team is ranked No. 3 in the latest poll provided by Golfstat. The Eagles moved up three spots from No. 6 to break into the Top 5. FGCU trails Florida Southern, and West Florida, who holds the top spot.
The Eagle golfers have had quite a successful fall season, finishing with three fourth place finishes and one second place finish. FGCU wrapped up the fall competition at the end of October when they played in the Rollins Invitational. Junior Robert Taylor (Inverness, Fla.) finished in a tie for third place amongst the leader board. Steven Taylor, a junior from Canton, Illinois, came in a tie for tenth place as the Eagles finished fourth.
So far, the Eagles have dropped nine shots from last season’s average while shooting nearly 297 per 18 as a team. Robert Taylor finished the fall with three Top 10 finishes and sophomore Kyle Henderson (Clermont, Fla.) has made his way into a pair of Top 10 finishes. Both Taylor and Henderson are averaging a 73 for the year. Steven Taylor and freshman Michael Hart (London, England) are not far behind with an average of 75. Assistant golf coach J.P. Meyer said “What a great way to finish out the fall season as we look ahead to our next match in February. I have been very impressed with the student-athletes’ ability to step up their game. We will continue to work hard, focusing on our short game and especially putting.”
The Eagles will travel to Lakeland, Fla. the second week of February to open the spring season at the Matlock Invitational.
