Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate draws to a Close for Men's Golf
SAVANNAH, Ga. – After finishing atop the leaderboard in their two previous outings, the Eagles were unable to come away with a first place finish at the conclusion of the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate Tournament in Savannah, Ga. on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Daniel Mazziotta was the top individual for the Eagles.
For the tournament, the FGCU men’s golf team was tied for eighth place with an aggregated 883 (294-292-297). Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla.) submitted a three round card of 217 (71-70-76) which tied him for 13th overall on the individual leaderboard.
"It was a tough week for the Eagles," said coach Brent Jensen following the outing. "Although we didn't play up to our high standards this week, I'm confident that we can bounce back and get back to our winning ways."
East Carolina University captured the tournament title and took individual medalist honors in David Watkins. The Pirates held onto first place, carding a team total 852 (284-280-288). Watkins finished the tournament at 205 (68-68-69).
The FGCU men’s golf team will take to the course again when they arrive in Daytona Beach, Fla. for the Bethune-Cookman Fall Invitational Tournament. The opening round is scheduled for Monday, October 26th.
