Men's Golf Earns Second Place at Mission Inn Spring Fling

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The 2010 Mission Inn Spring Fling came to completion on Sunday afternoon with the FGCU men’s golf team in second place in the nine team field. The Eagles had four participants place inside the top 10 on the individual board. The tournament was reduced to two rounds after heavy rain postponed Friday’s opening round.

On the team leaderboard, the Eagles sat ahead of all schools after submitting an opening round 301. The five-man squad turned in a 300 in Sunday’s final round, bringing the tournament total to 601 and putting the Eagles in second place ahead of Stetson’s 603. St. Leo University edged out the Eagles for first place on the last day, with a combined 598 (305-293).

Senior Michael Hart (London, England) submitted a tournament-low 72 in Saturday’s opening round and led the way for the Eagles with a 147 (72-75), good for a share of third overall. Sophomore Alex Medinis (Fort Myers, Fla.) sat alone in ninth place with a score of 151 (77-74). Junior Daniel Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Patrick Williams (Toronto, Ontario) finished in a five-way tie for 10th overall with a 152, (77-75) and (75-77) respectively. St. Leo’s Mark McGuire earned the individual title with a 145 (76-69).

The FGCU men’s golf team will take to the course again on Friday, March 26th when they head to Delray Beach, Fla. for the FAU Invitational.
