Men's Golf Holds Fourth Place at 2010 A-Sun Championship

BRASELTON, Ga. – After the opening round of the 2010 A-Sun Championship, the FGCU men’s golf team is fourth in the field of 11 at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga. Sophomore Brandon Pena (Clewiston, Fla.) is tied for fourth, while three other Eagles are in the top 25 overall.

The Blue and Green combined for an opening round 292 to move three strokes ahead of Campbell, and just behind Mercer’s 290 and No. 20 North Florida’s 291. Submitting a 7-under 281, No. 31 ETSU built a substantial nine-shot lead after day one.

FGCU had four participants in the top 25 following the first round of competition. Pena set the tone for the Eagles with a 1-under 71, which was good for a share of fourth overall. Senior Michael Hart (London, England) is in a tie for eighth with an even-par score of 72, and junior Daniel Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla.) is tied for 18th after turning in a day one 74. Additionally, sophomore Alex Medinis (Fort Myers, Fla.) shot a round one 75 to tie for 23rd overall.

Sitting atop the individual leaderboard, ETSU's Rhys Enoch and Seamus Power recorded matching 3-under 69’s to pace the Buccaneers to the first-round lead.
