BRASELTON, Ga. – The FGCU men’s golf team moved into third place on the team leaderboard at the 2010 A-Sun Championship on Tuesday at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga. Senior Michael Hart (London, England) is leading the Eagles into the final round, currently tied for eighth overall.

"The squad has played very well through the opening two rounds," said head coach Dr. Jim Suttie. "We had guys step up and finish their rounds solidly to impact the team today and they have put themselves in a great position going into tomorrow, where anything can happen!"

After the Eagles’ day one 292 placed them fourth in the 11 team field, the five man squad submitted a second round 289 for a tournament total of 581, which moved them into third overall. FGCU will join the two nationally-ranked programs in the final group on Wednesday after posting the second-best team score of the day, at 1-over par. The Blue and Green sit eight strokes ahead of Campbell and Mercer’s scores of 589, and seven strokes off No. 20 North Florida’s two-round total of 574.

Following the opening round, No. 31 ETSU built a substantial nine shot lead and currently sits atop the leaderboard with a 571, just three strokes ahead of No. 20 UNF.

With two rounds complete, Hart holds the best aggregate score for FGCU with a 145 (72-73) for a share of eighth overall after submitting the lone eagle of the day on the par-5 14th. Battling each other are the Fort Myers duo of junior Daniel Mazziotta and sophomore Alex Medinis who are tied for 14th overall with scores of 147, (74-73) and (75-72) respectively.
