Former Eagle Lamely to Play in First Career Major, U.S. Open
FORT MYERS, Fla. – As the U.S. Open gets underway on Thursday, former FGCU golfer Derek Lamely will take to the course for the first major tournament of his young PGA career. Lamely earned his place in this weekend’s tournament following a six-way playoff for the final five spots at the sectional qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, on June 7.
Lamely won his first professional event on the Nationwide Tour in August, after missing the cut in four of his previous seven tournaments. He followed that up with a second-place finish two weeks later, then another in October that solidified his 2010 PGA Tour exemption by placing in the top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list.
The former Eagle won the Puerto Rico Open in March, which got him into The Players Championship and this year's PGA Championship. This season, Lamely has made eight of 17 cuts and is currently 51st on the money list.
