FORT MYERS, Fla. – A trio of FGCU golfers concluded play at the 93rd Amateur Championship on Sunday at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Fla. Sophomore Alex Medinis (Fort Myers, Fla.) tied for fifth place to lead the Eagle competitors.

Scoring the tournament’s single-round low score of 66 in the final round, Medinis ended the four round event in a five-way tie for fifth overall with a 293 (76-77-74-66). Junior Daniel Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla.) also made it in the top 20 with a 296 (73-78-72-73), good for share of 16th overall and sophomore Brandon Pena (Clewiston, Fla.) finished in a split for 41st with a 304 (74-75-80-75).

"I'm very proud of our Eagles in the State Amateur Championship," said FGCU assistant golf coach Brent Jensen. "Medinis, Mazziotta and Pena played some really solid golf. Medinis' tournament low-round score of 66 in the final round catapaulted him into the tie for fifth place. Dan played very solid throught the tournament but had a stretch of four holes in the second round that held him back. Pena also played three solid rounds and had just one round where he struggled a bit. It is great to see our guys step up and play well this summer, and I know it will give the team a lot of confidence heading into the fall season."

UNF’s Sean Dale picked up the title with the tournament low score of 285 (70-73-73-69).

The 93rd Amateur Championship was played at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge. The breathtaking course sweeps across 270 acres along the shores of the Butler Chain of Lakes. The Champion, Challenger and Charger links feature 27 holes of tour championship golf, a challenging though fair test for both professionals and amateurs alike.
