FORT MYERS, Fla. – Fresh off the first collegiate win of his young career at the Rio Pinar Invitational, FGCU freshman Jack Hernandez (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot HS) earned his second Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week award of the spring on Wednesday, announced by the league office.

Hernandez along with teammate Brandon Pena (Clewiston, Fla./Clewiston HS), UNF’s Sean Dale and Kennesaw State’s Matt Nagy have all won the award multiple times this season.

It was Hernandez’s final 36 holes at the Rio Pinar Invitational hosted by UCF that helped him capture individual medalist honors. Fueled by a five-under 67 in Tuesday’s final round, Hernandez played the last 36 holes of the event at a combined nine-under par to finish atop the 86-player leaderboard. The second Eagle in as many years to win medalist honors at the tournament, Hernandez played the first nine holes of the final round at six-under before holding on for his career-low and the one-shot win over Wichita State’s Rafael Becker. The Fort Myers product finished with a 72(E)-68(-4)-67(-5)/209(-9), leading the field with 16 birdies and in par 3 scoring (-2).

On the year, Hernandez sports a stroke average of 73.3 over 24 rounds in eight events. Hernandez has contributed a counting score in 23 of 24 rounds, shooting even-par or lower 11 times, including his last six rounds. He has finished in the top 20 in six of eight tournaments and cracked the top 10 on five occasions.

Hernandez will be in the starting lineup this weekend when FGCU heads across the state for the FAU Invitational starting on Friday, March 23.
