Kennesaw, Ga. – After nearly a month off, the FGCU men’s golf team will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to take part in the 2013 Pinetree Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State at Pinetree Country Club.

The competitors will play three rounds (54-holes) over two days (Oct. 21-22) with the low four scores from each team’s designated five-player lineup counting toward the team total each round. The first 36-holes will be played on Monday, followed by a final round on Tuesday. KSU won last years’ event, posting a four-under par 860 while FGCU finished eighth with a 924.

In addition to the host Owls and FGCU, the 12-team tournament field includes Akron, Ball State, Indiana, Louisville, Northern Illinois, Samford, Troy, UT-Pan American, Winthrop and Wofford. Each day of competition will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Live tournament coverage will be available via Golfstat, with scoring updates every three holes.

Originally opened in 1962, Pinetree Country Club’s 18-hole championship golf course was renovated in 2008 and now plays 7,108 yards from the championship tees with a par of 72. With picturesque rolling hills, holes framed by towering Georgia pines, flowering shrubs, native hardwoods, babbling brooks and sparkling ponds, golfers can enjoy an exciting and challenging playing experience regardless of age or skill.

In FGCU’s previous event, the team carded an 893 en route to an eighth-place finish at the Saint Mary’s Invitational. The Eagles fired a final-round score of 301 at the Black Horse and Bayonet Golf Course while sophomore Jake Sherwin (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) posted a 3-over par score of 219 for week that landed him in a tie for 10th position overall.

At their season-opening event, the Golfweek Conference Challenge, the Eagles closed the weekend in a tie for 11th among a strong field. No FGCU player finished with a three-round total higher than 230.

Following their event this week the Eagles will finally tee-it-up at home when they co-host the Cobra Puma Inviational with Xavier University. The event will also take place over two days with 36-holes being played on Sunday, Oct. 27 followed by the final round on Monday.
