Eagles Finish Seventh at 2010 FAU Invitational

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - The FGCU men’s golf team concluded play in seventh place at the 18-team 2010 FAU Invitational in Delray Beach, Fla. on Sunday afternoon. As an individual, Fort Myers sophomore Alex Medinis placed in the top 10 overall. Turning in a three-round team score of 873 (291-286-296) placed the Eagles in seventh place ahead of Minnesota (878), Ohio State (884), Notre Dame (885), USF (890), Marquette (906), and Wisconsin (909). Illinois captured the team title with a 10-under score of 842 (282-279-281). Medinis (Fort Myers, Fla.) guided the Eagles through the three round event, and finished alone in seventh place with a scorecard of 211 (70-68-73). Junior Daniel Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla.) placed inside the top 30 with a three day total of 220 (72-76-72), good for a share of 27th overall with five other participants. With three sub-par rounds, Illinois’ Chris DeForest won the individual medalist honor with a 205 (67-68-70) score. With the fourth spring competition behind them, the Eagles will now prepare for the 2010 A-Sun Championships. This year’s event will be held at The Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga. on April 18-21.
