Men's Golf Team Places 5th at Outback Intercollegiate

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team posted the third-best score in the final round and finished fifth overall at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate completed today at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, Florida.

South Carolina-Aiken came from three strokes back in the final round to tie Columbus State for team honors with a 27-over-par score of 595. Three players tied for individual medalist honors. Dane Burkhart of USC-Aiken and teammates John Tillery and Juan Bialet of Georgia College & State all finished three-over-par with a score of 145. Columbus State’s Christian Ries and Scott Brown of USC-Aiken tied for fourth with a four-over-par 146.

Senior David Steele (Bonita Springs) led FGCU with a two-round total of 148 (73-750 to finish in a tie for sixth. Junior Drew Pierson (Lockport, Ill.) and sophomore Kyle Bilodeau (Manchester, CT) tied for 22nd overall with a two-round score of 154. Pierson had rounds of 81 and 73 while Bilodeau shot 79 and 75.

Sophomore Joe Hays (Walton, KY) finished 35th (80-78=158). Sophomore Alister Munro (Deventer, Holland) closed out the Eagles scoring with a 159 (80-79) to finished 41st.

The Eagles will next compete in the Armstrong Atlantic Invitational from February 20-22 in Savannah, Georgia.
