Men's Golf Team 14th at Wittcoff Invitational

TAMPA, Fla.  – The University of South Florida men’s golf team pulled out a come-from-behind win over Florida Southern, shooting a final round 290 to win the Dick Wittcoff/USF Invitational Sunday at The Claw. Florida Gulf Coast University finished 14th among the 15 teams competing.

USF finished with a three round score of 888, six strokes over par and one stroke better than Florida Southern. Middle Tennessee, Mercer and Austin Peay completed the top five teams.

Brandan Price of Mercer led all three rounds en route to low medalist honors with a three-over-par score of 216. USF’s Brad Quiri tied with Patrick McLennan of Middle Tennessee St. for second in the individual competition with a six-over-par 219.

Junior Drew Pierson (Lockport, Ill.) led FGCU with a three-round total of 229 (78-79-72) Tom Villani was 53rd with a 235 while sophomore Joe Hays (Walton, Kent.) shot a 237 to finish 60th. Sophomore Alister Munro (Deventer, Holland) had a 241 to finish 70th while senior Mike Claman (Wauchula, Fla.) had two solid rounds but did not finish the third round.

FGCU will next compete in the Buccaneer Invitational, hosted by Barry University, on March 7 in Miami Shores.
