Men's Golf Team Places 11th at El Diablo Invitational

CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. – Oklahoma City University claimed the 2005 El Diablo Intercollegiate Sunday by ten strokes over Texas-San Antonio. Oklahoma City finished with a team 896. Florida Gulf Coast University shot a final round score of 317 to post a team score of 928 and finish 11th place of 19 teams.
Jay Pannone of Rhode Island won medalist honors for the weekend, posting scores of 77, 70, and 72 for 219. Pannone's teammate, Kenneth Fahey, was second with a score of 220 (76-70-74).
Junior Drew Pierson (Lockport, Ill.) led FGCU with a three-round 224 (76-71-77) to finish sixth overall among 112 golfers. His second round score of 71 was the lowest posted by an Eagles golfer in the tournament and his finish was the second top-10 finish by a FGCU golfer this spring. David Steele tied for sixth in the Outback Invitational back in February.
Senior Mike Claman (Wauchula, Fla.) was two strokes behind Pierson to finish 12th overall with a 226 (72-73-81). Freshman Hartley McLeod (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was third for FGCU with a three-round score of 232. Sophomore Joe Hays (Walton, Kent.) shot a 246 to finish 70th. Sophomore Alister Munro (Deventer, Holland) had a 250 to finish 91st.
FGCU will close out the season at the Southeast Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Valdosta State, beginning April 3 in Valdosta, Georgia.
