No. 30 Men's Golf Stands in 7th Place after Day 2 of Lexus Invitational

NAPLES, Fla. – The Florida Gulf University men’s golf team is idling in seventh place in the Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational with a 593 total after day two. The invitational is being held at the Hammock Bay Golf and Country Club with 12 teams participating. Baylor University currently stands in first place with a score of 566.
The Lexus Invitational is hosted by PGA TOUR professional Peter Jacobsen and is in it’s second year running.
The Eagles are currently ranked 30th in Division II by Golfstat with their highest finish as a team at 5th at the Matlock Invitational earlier this year. In a rebuilding year, the Eagles have a young team with seven freshman, two sophomores and only one junior and one senior.
Leading the FGCU pack is freshmen Kyle Henderson (Clermont, FL) and Kyle Hammond (Windermere, FL) with are tied in the 21st spot with a score of 148, four over. They both shot 74 in round one and round two. Senior Drew Pierson (Lockport, IL) stands in 30th place with a two-day score of 150, six over. Pierson shot 79 in round one and improved to a 71 team best so far in round two. David Blue (Edina, MN), a sophomore transfer from the University of Minnesota, ended day two with a score of 153 along with teammate freshman Chris Covelli (Amherst, NY) to tie in 36th place so far. Blue shot 82 on the first day and 71 on the second meeting invite team best with Blue and Covelli shot 76 and 77.
Current overall leaders are Ryan Baca (Richmond, Texas) from Baylor University and Kyle Reifers (Columbus, OH) from Wake Forest University both with a two day score of 138, six under, tied for first.
