LEMONT, Ill. - The golf industry's most exclusive list of top teaching talent has been issued by Golf Digest Magazine as it unveils its biennial list of America's 50 Greatest Teachers for 2007-08 in its August issue. Among those named to the new list is FGCU Head Coach Dr. Jim Suttie, owner of The Jim Suttie Golf Academies located at Cog Hill G. & C.C. in Lemont, IL and at Twin Eagles C.C. in Naples, FL. Dr. Suttie has been on the Golf Digest list since its inception in 2000 and is ranked at No. 18 on the new list.
During the 2006-07 season, Suttie led the Eagles to a 16th place finish in the Division II National Championships and helped the team achieve a #1 ranking by Golfstat.com.
For more than three decades, Suttie has been devoted to developing a teaching framework for golfers by applying biomechanical principles to the golf swing. This framework optimizes the relationship between each individual's natural build and the golf swing that is the most easily adaptable to it. Without question, he has improved the games of thousands of golfers from around the globe.
Suttie's decades of motor learning and biomechanical research (his doctorate is in Biomechanics), have culminated in some of golf's most revolutionary teaching methods such as those detailed in his ground-breaking book The LAW's of the Golf Swing. He also has taught many of the best-known golfers in the world including PGA Tour stars Paul Azinger, Chip Beck, Loren Roberts, Brad Elder and Mark Wilson.
Since the first survey in 2000, Golf Digest has used peer voting on the state and national level to build the Best Teacher lists. This year's list was selected by the nearly 1,000 teachers from all 50 states who filled out an online ballot. There are more than 28,000 golf professionals in the United States who were eligible for consideration.
"This is a special honor for me because it means your peers respect your work as a teacher," said Dr. Suttie. "I've been a teacher and coach for four decades and I can say that being recognized among the Top 20 instructors out of the many thousands who teach this great game means a tremendous amount to me."
Golf Digest is the most widely read golf publication in the world with nearly six million readers each month. The entire list is available at: Golf Digest 50 Greatest Teachers.
