Bolton, Mass. - At the 2007 Hawks Invitational hosted by Hartford, the FGCU men's golf squad finished in 4th place (tied) in the season-opening tournament.

The Hawks Invitational was held at The International Golf Club in Bolton, Mass. The participating schools were Binghamton, Brown, Columbia, Connecticut, Florida Gulf Coast, Hartford, Old Dominion, Penn State, Sacred Heart, San Francisco, St. John’s, Texas San Antonio and West Florida.

The 54-hole event was played on the award-winning Oaks Course designed by Tom Fazio. The teams played 36 holes on Friday (Sept 14) and a final 18 on Saturday (Sept. 15).

The Eagles recorded a composite team score of 900 during the tournaments 54 holes. Old Dominion took the team tourney title with an 872, six strokes ahead of Penn State.

Kyle Henderson was the Eagles' top finisher in the two-day event when he turned in a three-over 219 which placed him in a tie for 5th overall. He shot a 69 in the first round of the tourney.

Robert Taylor came in second on FGCU's scorecard with a three-round total of 224 which tied him for 17th individually. His best round of the event was a 72 on Friday's first 18 holes.

Daniel Mazziotta and Michael Hart recorded 229's in the tournament to tie for 26th and Alister Munro rounded out FGCU's card with a 237 which placed him in a tie for 51st. Munro's best round of 75 took place in Friday's first 18 holes, while Mazziotta's best of 73 took place in Friday's last 18 holes. Hart's low round of 75 took place in Saturday's round.

St. John's Keegan Bradley took the tourney's individual title with a four-under 212, four strokes ahead of Old Dominion's John Murphy.

The Men's golf squad will be back out on the course on Oct. 14 in the Belmont Invitational, while the Women's squad will participate in the FGCU Fall Invite on Sept. 29.
