BRENTWOOD, TENN. - At the 2007 Belmont Fall Shootout hosted by Belmont, the FGCU men's golf squad finished in 4th place (tied) in the second tournament of the season.
The participating schools were Akron, Cleveland State, Northern Illinois, FGCU, Ball State, Miami, Austin Peay, Troy, William and Mary, Marshall and Belmont.
The 54-hole event was played on the 7,043 yard Par 72 Nashville Golf & Athletic Club layout. The teams played 36 holes on Monday (Oct. 15) and a final 18 on Saturday (Oct. 16). Despite overnight rains which softened the course, scores remained relatively high with fast greens and challenging hole locations.

Kyle Henderson was the Eagles' top finisher in the two-day event when he turned in a one-under 215 (-1) which placed him in a tie for 2nd overall. He shot a 71 in the first round of the tourney.
Robert Taylor came in second on FGCU's scorecard with a three-round total of 217 (+1) which tied him for 7th individually. His best round of the event was a 68 on Friday's second round.
Daniel Mazziotta and Michael Hart recorded scores of 225 (+9) and 226 (+10), placing them T-31st and T-35th, respectively. Zach Robinson rounded out FGCU's card with a 234 (+18), which placed him in a tie for 54th. Mazziotta’s best round of 72 took place in Monday’s second 18 holes, while Hart and Robinson saved their best rounds for Tuesday’s round.
Austin Peay’s Grant Leaver claimed the tournament title in a three-man playoff with Henderson and Miami (OH)’s Nathan Sutherland. The trio finished with matching 54 hole totals of 215 (-1). Leaver birdied the first playoff hole.
Campbell’s Fredric Sundberg also finished at 215, but was unable to participate in the playoff due to travel.
The men's golf squad will be back out on the course on Oct. 22 to compete in the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational in Goosecreek, S.C.
