DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - At the 2007 Bethune-Cookman Spring Invitational hosted by Bethune-Cookman, the FGCU men’s golf squad had four golfers finish in the top-ten and took the team title in the first tournament of the spring season.
The 36-hole event was played on the 6,772 yard Par 72 Indigo Lakes Country Club layout. The teams played 18 holes on Saturday (Feb. 23) and a final 18 on Sunday (Feb. 24).
The Eagles recorded a composite team score of 568, three strokes ahead of second place Stetson, during the tournament’s 36 holes.
Kyle Hammond was the Eagles' top finisher in the two-day event when he turned in a five-under 139. He shot a 67 in the second round of the tourney to come from behind and tie with Stetson’s David McAndrew for first place. Hammond and McAndrew played two playoff holes before Hammond claimed the tournament title after he parred the second playoff hole.
Kyle Henderson came in second on FGCU's scorecard with a two-round total of 141 (-3) which tied him for third individually. His best round of the event was a 70 on Sunday. Michael Hart and Daniel Mazziotta both recorded scores of 144 (E), placing them T-9th. Robert Taylor rounded out FGCU's card with a 148 (+4), which placed him in a tie for 14th. Hart’s best round of 71 took place in Sunday’s round, while Mazziotta (71) and Taylor (73) played their best rounds on Saturday’s round.
The Eagles will be back in action on Mar. 3 at the Lonnie D Small Memorial in Buies Creek, N.C.
