MANHATTAN, Kan. – To open the 2009 season, the FGCU men’s golf team tied for fifth place at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. After finishing the first round in eighth place, the Eagles climbed the leaderboard on the final day of the tournament to finish in the top five.
As a team, FGCU finished the two round outing with a team score of 610 (321-289). Tournament host, Kansas State, finished at the top of the leaderboard with a team score of 569 (287-282).
FGCU Junior Josh Leppo (Naples, Fla.) ended the day tied for 18th overall and lead the Eagles with a score of 151 (78-73). Junior Daniel Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla.) tied for 21st overall with a score of 152 (79-73).
Originally scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament, the event was reduced to 36-holes due to a rain delayed start on Monday morning.
The FGCU men’s golf team will be back on the course Thursday, October 1st, when they head to Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. for the Mission Inn Intercollegiate.
