DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team found themselves in a battle for supremacy on the final day of the Bethune-Cookman Invitational Tournament on Sunday in Daytona Beach, Fla. At the conclusion of the tournament, the Eagles held on for a second place finish.
Heading into the final round, FGCU was in a two-way tie for first place with Florida Atlantic Univeristy at 576. Sophomore Alex Medinis (Fort Myers, Fla.) was also in a two-way tie atop the individual leaderboard with FAU’s Ben Silverman, both with scores of 139.
Florida Atlantic University had a strong final 18 holes on Sunday to pull away from Florida Gulf Coast University by 16 strokes to win the team championship of the B-CU Fall Invitational at the LPGA Legends Course.
As the tournament came to a close, the Eagles tallied a team total of 873 (292-284-297) falling to FAU who submitted an aggregate score of 857 (287-289-281).
On the individual leaderboard, neither Medinis nor Silverman would be able to surmount the 208 (69-71-68) from Stetson’s Sam Ryder, which was good for first overall. Medinis and Silverman would finish tied for second with a score of 214, (73-66-75) and (74-65-75) respectively.
FGCU Junior Daniel Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla.) also placed in the top 10 overall with a three-round score of 216 (70-74-72) which tied him for fourth as an individual.
The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team will be back on the course next month, travelling to Deland, Fla. for the Stetson/CFSTC Invitational Tournament on Tuesday, November 3rd.
