Men's Golf Opens Spring Season At Heralded JU Invitational

15 team tournament includes nine of Golf Week’s Top 100

PONTE VERDRA BEACH, Fla. – After putting together a successful fall season that included a pair of wins and two more runner-ups, the FGCU men’s golf team will begin its championship spring campaign at the competitive Jacksonville Invitational on the PLAYERS Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass Monday morning.

The 15-team tournament that includes nine of Golf Week’s top 100 teams begins with 36 holes on Monday and closes with the final round on Tuesday. The Eagles will play the opening two rounds on the par-72, 6,900-yard PLAYERS Stadium Course alongside Clemson (No. 41) and Georgia Southern beginning on holes 11-14. A shotgun start is slated for 8 a.m.

FGCU starting five of senior Dan Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake HS), juniors Brandon Pena (Clewiston, Fla./Clewiston HS), Alex Medinis (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS) and Patrick Williams (Toronto, Canada/Crescent School) along with sophomore Kyle English (Bloomington, Ill./University HS) will compete against some of the top teams from the ACC and the A-Sun. Florida highlights the field after finish the fall ranked No. 1 by Golf Week, while defending A-Sun champ ETSU is also in the field.
