Taking the course for the 103rd round of his collegiate career, FGCU men's golf senior Brandon Pena capped his illustrious four-year career in the Green and Blue with an even-par 71 in the final round of the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships Athens Region on Saturday at the University of Georgia Golf Course.

FGCU senior Brandon Pena's illustrious four-year career was extended on Monday night when the Clewiston, Fla. product heard his named called during the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Selection Show on NCAA.com. Pena earned the No. 6 individual seed in the Athens, Ga. Region that will be played at The University of Georgia Golf Course from May 17-19.

The Atlantic Sun Conference handed out its men's golf postseason accolades on Wednesday, as FGCU senior Brandon Pena on the All-Conference second team and inaugural Academic All-Conference squad, while freshman Jack Hernandez earned a spot on the All-Freshmen team.

The FGCU men's golf team completed the second round of the Atlantic Sun Championship held at the Chateau Elan Legends Course on Tuesday with a team score of 302 to maintain its spot in fourth place in the field of 10. The Eagles' 302 comes on the heels of an opening-round 292 for a two-round score of 596 heading into Wednesday's final round.

Led by a one-under par 71 from redshirt junior Patrick Williams, the FGCU men's golf team opened play at the Atlantic Sun Championship held at Chateau Elan Legends Course with a four-over par 292 to sit in fourth place in the field of 10. Williams' 71 was one of just seven under-par rounds yielded by the par-72, 6,975-yard course that was also the site for the league's 2010 Championship.

All five FGCU men's golfers finished at even-par or lower, as the Eagles got off to a solid start to the FAU Spring Break Championship with a one-under 283 on Friday to sit in sole possession of the third place in the 15-team field at The Fountains Country Club. The Eagles' under-par team score is their fourth in a row, marking the longest streak of consecutive under-par rounds in the program's Division I history.

Fresh off the first collegiate win of his young career at the Rio Pinar Invitational, FGCU freshman Jack Hernandez earned his second Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week award of the spring on Wednesday, announced by the league office. Hernandez along with teammate Brandon Pena, UNF’s Sean Dale and Kennesaw State's Matt Nagy have all won the award multiple times this season.

Led by senior Alex Medinis' back-to-back under-par rounds, the FGCU men’s golf team opened the first day of the Rio Pinar Invitational hosted by UCF with 36-hole score of 13-under par to sit in first place of the 15-team field at Rio Pinar Country Club. Medinis started the tournament with the low round of the day by carding a five-under 67 followed by a two-under 70 in the afternoon to sit atop the 86-player leaderboard.

The FGCU men's golf team wrapped up play at the USF Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in sole possession of 12th place in the 17-team tournament being held at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. Senior Brandon Pena was the Eagles’ top finisher, earning his 21st career top 20 finish. On a day that saw all 17 teams shoot a higher score than Monday's second round, FGCU carded a four-man score of 296 to move up one spot into 12th place.

Hernandez led the Eagles to a third place finish in the field of 15 at the Rice Intercollegiate by tying for seventh overall out of 81 participants.

Freshman Jack Hernandez capped a strong showing at the Rice Intercollegiate with a two-under par 70 to lead the FGCU men's golf team to a third place finish in the 15-team field at Westwood Golf Club. The Eagles entered the final round in second place, but couldn’t keep pace with the under-par team scores turned in by tournament champ No. 73 Northwestern (289-287(-1)-286(-2)/862) and No. 71 Houston (291-291-284(-4)/866).

Fresh off a fall season that ended with four straight team titles, FGCU men's golf coach Brent Jensen announced the signing of Mathias Boesmans and Edward Figueroa to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) during the early signing period. Boesmans will have two years of eligibility at FGCU after spending two years at Western Texas College, while Naples product Figueroa will enter as a freshman.

Supplying the lowest team score in all three rounds, the FGCU men's golf team closed out its third straight Stetson/CFSC Invitational title and won its fourth consecutive tournament of the fall season by 23 strokes over the rest of the eight-team field at Victoria Hills Golf Club. FGCU (294-283(-5)-293/870) opened up a 14-stroke lead after day one thanks to a five-under 283 in the afternoon round.

Behind a five-under par 283 in Monday's second round, the FGCU men's golf team will enter the final round of the eight-team Stetson Invitational at Victoria Hills Golf Club with a 14-stroke lead. The Eagles have won the tournament title three of the last four years, including two straight. The Eagles were five strokes better than anyone else in the morning round with a 294, but followed with their fourth under-par team score of the season in the afternoon.

As a team, the Eagles have been at par or lower in four of their last five rounds en route to winning the Cobra-PUMA Invitational hosted by Xavier and the John Dallio Memorial in Chicago.

The FGCU men's golf team overcame a four-stroke deficit to No. 49 Missouri in Sunday’s final round of the John Dallio Memorial Tournament hosted by DePaul by carding an even-par 288 to capture its second team title of the week at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. A year removed from losing a final round lead and finishing in second in the very same tournament, the Eagles were able to turn their fortunes to give second-year head coach and Chicago native Brent Jensen a win in his hometown.

The Eagles' one-under 287 was the only under-par team score of the day and the Green and Blue’s second of the season.

The A-Sun weekly honor is the second of Pena’s career. He earned the award last spring after tying for second at the Rice Intercollegiate.

Behind a second round team score of 13-under par 275, the FGCU men’s golf team capped Sunday’s opening 36 holes of the 12-team Cobra-PUMA Invitational hosted by Xavier University with a five-stroke leading heading into Monday’s final round at Miromar Lakes Golf Club. FGCU’s second round 275 was 11 strokes better than any of the other 11 teams in the afternoon and vaulted the Eagles from sole possession of third place after round one into first with a two-round 289-275(-13)/564(-12).

The FGCU men’s golf team wrapped up play at the season-opening St. Mary’s Invitational in a three-way tie for 10th place in the competitive 15-team field at the 54-hole event held at Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses. Highlighted by senior Alex Medinis’ even-par 72, the Eagles carded a four-man score of 312 to ultimately slide from ninth to a tie for 10th with UC Riverside and Cal State Northridge.

The FGCU men’s golf team opened its fall campaign at the St. Mary’s Invitational on Monday, finishing the 36-hole day in sole possession of ninth place in the 15-team field after two rounds at Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses. The Eagles began the day with a four-man score of 306 on the Bayonet Course before improving on the Black Horse course with a second-round 297.

After earning a spot into match play by three strokes, FGCU men's golf junior-to-be Kyle English (Bloomington, Ill./University HS) used a three-day run of upsets as the No. 14 seed to capture the prestigious 92nd Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA) Amateur Championships.
