SEASIDE, Calif. – The FGCU men’s golf team opened play at the competitive 15-team St. Mary’s Invitational on Monday, splitting the 36-hole day between Bayonet Golf Course and Blackhorse Golf Course.

The Eagles opened the day with a team score of 306 on Bayonet GC and followed with a 315 on Blackhorse GC in the afternoon to sit in 15th place with Tuesday’s final round still to play. The final round will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on the Bayonet course. Live scoring of the entire tournament is available at www.GOLFSTAT.com or www.FGCUATHLETICS.com.

Host St. Mary’s (290-285/575) used a three-under 285 in the nightcap to move into sole possession of first place, just one stroke ahead of Fresno State (289-288/577). Junior Mathias Boesmans (Belgium/Western Texas College) was FGCU’s low man in each round, opening with an even-par 72 and following with a 76 in the afternoon. Boesmans’ sits just outside the top 20 in a tie for 23rd place, while freshman Edward Figueroa (Naples, Fla./St. John Neumann) joined Boesmans as the only two eagles to shoot in the 70s both rounds.
