FGCU in Eighth Place After First Round of Atlantic Sun Championship

BRASELTON, Ga. – Sophomore Jack Hernandez’s (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot HS) two-over par 74 highlighted the FGCU men’s golf team’s first round at the Atlantic Sun Championship held at the Legends Course of Chateau Elan, as the Eagles sit in sole possession of eighth place in the 10-team field.

FGCU finished the day with a four-man score of 313 and will begin Monday’s second round at 8:50 a.m. going off No. 10 tee.

No. 17 UNF’s one-over 289 sits nine strokes ahead of second place Kennesaw State (298), while ETSU (301) and Jacksonville (301) are tied for third. Just four players finished under-par out of the field of 50 with all four shooting one-under 71.

Hernandez’s 74 included 10 pars and three birdies to put him in a four-way for seventh place. Playing in their first A-Sun Championship, freshmen Edward Figueroa (Naples, Fla./St. John Neumann) and Jake Sherwin (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) turned in counting scores of 79. FGCU’s final score came from junior Matt Cote (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor University HS), who carded an 81.
