LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Coming off a strong finish by placing second at the FAU Spring Break Championship last year, the FGCU men’s golf team will return to action Friday-Sunday, Mar. 28-30, as part of the newly-named FAU Slomin Autism Invite at The Fountains Country Club.

The 54-hole event on the North Course – the longest of the three Fountains CC courses at 6,876 yards – gets underway Friday morning and will include 18 holes each of the three days. The North Course plays to a par-71 and is notable for abundant water features and large greens.

Live scoring will be posted on Golfstat.com or by following the link at the top of this release, and updates will be available on Twitter @FGCU_MGolf throughout the tournament.

In addition to host FAU and FGCU, 12 other teams will be competing this weekend: UCF, Georgia Southern, Middle Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Bethune-Cookman, Hartford, DePaul, Connecticut, Stetson, Murray State, Morehead State and Lafayette.

Four of the 14 teams are ranked inside the top-100 in the nation by Golfweek, led by No. 9 UCF and capped by No. 99 FGCU (complete rankings below).

Head coach Brent Jensen will send out the following lineup as FGCU looks for another top finish at the tournament on the East Coast of the Sunshine State:

1) Jake Sherwin (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS)
2) Jack Hernandez (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot HS)
3) Blake Biggs (Peoria, Ill./Eastern Florida State College/Peoria Notre Dame HS)
4) Mike Andre (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS)
5) Matt Cote (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor University HS)

Last year FGCU tied Hartford for second place out of 18 teams at the same event for a three-day total of 873. The Eagles made up seven strokes on then-No. 39 UCF in the final round, but finished seven strokes back of the Knights. Sherwin, then a freshman, led FGCU by finishing in third place with two rounds of 71 and a 69.

Third place was exactly where Sherwin ended up two weeks ago as he led the Eagles to a fourth-place finish at the Talis Park Collegiate Challenge, overcoming windy conditions throughout the three rounds. Sherwin finished with a total score of 217 in the field of more than 75 golfers as FGCU finished ahead of No. 78 Indiana, No. 90 Notre Dame and No. 95 Cincinnati.

The Slomin Autism Invite will conclude a busy March for the FGCU as the Eagles will be competing in their third tournament of the month. The Green and Blue opened the month with a tournament victory at the Harmony Preserve Intercollegiate Mar. 3-4 in Harmony, Fla., before the Talis Park Collegiate Challenge Mar. 16-17.

The event will serve as the second-to-last test for FGCU before the Atlantic Sun Championships Apr. 20-22. Next up the Eagles will head to Texas for the Jim West Intercollegiate in Dallas Apr. 7-8.
